Elisabeth Bohnet studied European art history as well as German language and literature at Universität Heidelberg, graduating in 2012 with a thesis on constructions of femininity in the œuvre of Francis Picabia. She then moved to Universität Hamburg to focus on transcultural negotiation processes and Roman Baroque. She completed her master's degree with a thesis entitled Picturing Marianne: An Intersectional Approach to Marie-Guilhelmine Benoist's Portrait d'une Négresse.
Upon returning to Heidelberg, she worked as an assistant curator at Kunsthalle Mannheim. There, she co-curated Jeff Wall. Appearance and project managed Inspiration Matisse. Since 2018, she has worked independently, for example as a curatorial assistant on the exhibiton Street Life exhibition at Wilhelm Hack Museum, for which she also edited the catalogue. Most recently, she was employed as an editor at Stylepark – Magazine for Architecture and Design.
At CRC 1671, she is conducting PhD research under Prof. Dr. Henry Keazor on the magazine Der Kunstwart and the concept of Heimatkunst (regional art) formulated therein.
