Simon Wiebe M.Ed.

doctoral candidtate, sub-project A06

Zur Person

Simon Wiebe studied Protestant Theology and History, both with and without a teaching qualification, in Paderborn, Giessen and New Haven from 2017 to 2024. His interest in history led him to the Museum für russlanddeutsche Kulturgeschichte in 2022, where he has since worked as a public history coordinator. In this context, he immersed himself in migration research, particularly the intersections between migration and religion. He focuses in particular on the Russian-German migrant churches, which have so far received insufficient attention from a theological perspective. This gap in academic research forms the starting point for his doctoral project, which examines eschatological conceptions of homeland in Russian-German (Post-)Gulag theology.

His current research project is entitled “Heaven as Home?! Eschatological Concepts of Home and Russian-German (Post-)Gulag Theology”.
