Laurenz Kornfeld studied German language, literature and linguistics from 2014 to 2020 at Bielefeld University, graduating with a bachelor's and master's degree in German language and literature and German as a foreign and second language. In October 2020, he began his doctoral studies at the Leibniz Institute for the German Language in Mannheim, where he was working in a project on comparative pragmatics. 

Since October 2024, he is a postdoctoral researcher in the linguistic subproject Deictic imaginations of lost and anticipated for lifeworlds of persecuted German-speaking Jews (B06) of the CRC 1671.
