Joachim Brenner studied history, philosophy and global history at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and received his PhD in 2025 with a dissertation on childhood and education in the atomic age. Since December 2024 he has been working on the Project C02 “The German Fatherland.” Heimatkunde in the Child’s Room and the Classroom: A comparison between west and east Germany” researching historical constructions of “Heimat” for and by children in divided postwar Germany.
