about

Elena Müller is a research assistant in the SFB subproject B05, Space and Belonging in Socio-Ecological Conflicts over Land and Raw Materials in Mexico, and is currently pursuing her doctorate at Heidelberg University under the supervision of Associate Professor Rosa Lehmann. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Romance Languages and Cultural Studies from Humboldt University of Berlin and a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Latin American Studies from Freie Universität Berlin, with a focus on socio-ecological transformations. After completing her studies, she undertook a postgraduate programme in International Cooperation for Sustainable Development at the Seminar for Rural Development (SLE) at Humboldt University. In this context, she evaluated the sustainability of the cashew value chain at the production level in Mozambique. Additional academic research focused on the social and environmental impacts of ecotourism on the Caribbean coast of Colombia and on impacts of the development of the Tren Maya project in Yucatán, Mexico. Most recently, her work centers socio-environmental conflicts in relation to wind energy development in Mexico, as well as a case in Spain, linking these studies to broader ecological and social redistribution processes associated with the use of space and natural resources in Latin America, particularly in Mexico.
