about
Shasha Lin is a postdoctoral research associate in subproject B04, ‘A Place Called Home? Dynamics of Home in North American Neighbourhoods.’ The ongoing project analyses the diverse meanings of home, homemaking practices, and the dynamics of home in immigrant neighbourhoods in the United States. As immigrants face uncertain living conditions and shifting political landscapes with regard to immigration policies, it is interesting to examine how they create a sense of home under precarious circumstances. She completed her doctorate in the DFG Research Training Group ‘Authority and Trust’ at the Heidelberg Centre for American Studies (HCA). Her dissertation, which was later published as a book titled Chinese Americans' Perceptions of Race, Education, and Affirmative Action (Palgrave Macmillan, 2025), deals with Chinese Americans' trust in educational institutions and their attitudes toward affirmative action. She previously studied American Studies at Heidelberg University and English Language and Literature at Sun Yat-sen University. In the autumn of 2024, she was a visiting scholar at the University of California, Los Angeles. Her research findings have been published in international journals like Population, Space and Place, Ethnic and Racial Studies, und Comparative Migration Studies, at international conferences, and in the media.
